The old Cross Keys has reopened under new management, now called The Keys. This is my blog review of this restaurant in Slyne with Hest.
First Impressions;
As you walk through the door of the pub/restaurant you get a sense of good old pubs, but as you walk further in that all changes, the bar is wooden and is well situated just left of the entrance, also on the left is the waiting tables and small table for bar food. On the right are small and large tables for the restaurant.
Food & Drink;
The drinks are not as good as you would expect, they taste watered down and the waiters often bring the wrong drinks out (2 out of 8 drinks were wrong) but they have a fine selection of ales and wines. The food is excellent if sometimes only basic, the two best things on the menu are the steak and both the salmon dishes.
Service;
The service is fast and efficient but again they occasionally make mistakes, but all round very good service.
Cleanliness;
The plates and glasses were clean and looked new and the toilets were well managed, however the was leaves, mud and paper by the door and under the tables.
Overall;
First Impressions; 8/10
Food & Drink; 7/10
Service; 5/10
Cleanliness; 6/10
Total; 26/40

History of the Village
The village of Slyne with Hest is a historically unimportant area. There was a train crash in Hest Bank which shutdown the station. Also there used to be a pier for small fishing boats in Hest Bank. It is not know how the pier was destroyed but many locals think that it was destroyed in either a storm or a fire.

Youth Recreation
In the village of Slyne with Hest there is a small park next to the, now closed, post office. Also there is a large park know as 'the Rec' with play area equipment, a all weather pitch and a grass football pitch.
There is another area, 'the Ridge', a series of fields with a small wooded area and a small lake, these fields have a single footpath running through them and are used by the farmer to graze cattle. There is also the Lancaster canal which is used by walkers and cyclists.
